Au Revoir JP
So bye bye Mr. The Pope. I, like the many other non Catholics in this country and tourists who have bought a t-shirt in Camden, have always considered you an icon, and one whose familiar image has always cheered my heart. So for the last time please join me in saying:
.Amen.

I think that's a very fitting obituary. We had a discussion about the Pope when I saw my famiy yesterday. The conversation ended with my dad singing "Ding Dong the Pope is dead" and my sister suggesting the next one is elected through a public vote ('Pope Idol').
or 'Conclave' as they say in Vatican City. seriously, i think that's a marvellous idea. we could also vote on the challenge all the prospective pope idols would do the next week, sort of pope idol/I'm a cardinal, get me out of here.... it could go back to back with Chop Idol. The royals and religion in popular formats, finally a sunday night line up the BBC can be proud of.
Meg how did your dad fit the Pope into the lyrics? I too tried to sing "Ding dong the Pope is dead" but could not find a satisfactory alliteration "Which old Pope/The wicked Pope" dint really hit the spot as it doesn't sound right, and the Pope wasn't wicked (in either the classic or the Ali G meaning of the word).
Take off their hats... No, sorry, that's popes in a volkswagon...
